State Treasurer Candidate Bill Daughtridge is Welcomed at 3rd District Meeting

Vice Chairman, Rachel Sturz welcomed and introduced Sate Representative Bill Daughtridge, Candidate for NC State Treasurer. Bill is opposed by Representative Dale Folwell in the Republican primary. Janet Cowell, Michael Weisel and David Young are the announced Democrat candidates.

Bill spoke of recent events at the General Assembly in Raleigh; and of his service as a member of the Joint Select Committee on Economic Development Incentives. He cited changes in Eastern North Carolina, in regard to agriculture and imports and exports. The quotas have virtually disappeared and there are now fewer exports and more imports.

North Carolina is expecting major growth, projected to increase our population to 12 million by the year 2030.  This will mean economic and water issue challenges ahead. Bill spoke of expansion in North Carolina to enhance tourism and waterway access and development.

Education in our State continues to present positives and negatives.  East Carolina is now the largest university in the State. Technology at many levels is spotting growth. Unfortunately, the statistics in regard to high school graduates is not so positive, 30 percent of students entering the 9th grade will not graduate.  Bill stated that education needs to be more appealing and offer more options.

North Carolina tax code reform and health care costs are more issues that need attention. He further stated that the Democrats are not effectively addressing the issues that confront us.

Bill then addressed his candidacy for the NC State Treasurer.

He informed us of his business background in the community and politically. Bill maintains that the Democrats are more concerned with re-election than the needs of North Carolina citizens. Democrats suppress ideas that are not their own and lack long term vision. He sees the critical need for Republicans to get into power to make things happen for the best interest of the people in North Carolina.

Bill informed us of the importance of the Treasurer’s position. The Treasurer maintains the stability of a good financial base, holding State government departments accountable to remain stable and solvent.  There is also a need for long term goals and vision that have the potential to bring good results. The Treasurer is the chief banker and invests all monies for the State, and these investments need to produce positive results.

In conclusion, Bill stated the importance of the impact of redistricting to Republicans in future elections. He highlighted the fact that the news media will not report Republicans in a positive way. It is up to us to make sure that the public is aware of the corruption is Raleigh and to report the successful prosecutions of Democrats.  There is a website that addresses this issue www.democratcorruption.com
