Dean Stephens Welcomed at Down East Republican Club

Dean Stephens, candidate for Congress in North Carolina's 1st District, was welcomed as the guest speaker at the March Down East Republican meeting. It was a fairly small crowd due to the NCAA basketball tournament and governor's debate in Greenville but turned out to be one of our better meetings. Interaction between the guests was intense and informative. Frank Falkson (pictured) even brought the United States Constitution into the debate. It's amazing how far we have strayed.

The highlight of the night was the great speech that Dean Stephens gave on illegal immigration.

Dean's Illegal Immigration Speech

Hi.  My name is Dean Stephens and I am running for Congress.

It is great to be here in Beaufort County in a city named for our Greatest President.  Washington was known as "First in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen."  It is sometimes forgotten that Washington presided over the constitutional convention that determined our form of government. Though others usually get the credit, there are those who believe Washington used his position in the convention to guide the discussions and get the form of government he wanted.  Washington wanted a form of government that embodied his love of liberty and individual freedom. Based on Washington's love of individual liberty, this nation has become the "shining city on a hill" that Ronald Reagan, an equally great president, so admired.

That greatness inspires almost everyone.  Most with the love of liberty.  Sadly, some with envy.

We are currently experiencing two invasions of people hostile to the American Dream who are clearly driven by this envy.

One group you may not have heard of. Though it is a strong and active movement, the American press simply ignores it since it conflicts with the agenda of the Democrat Party.  The press blurs them with a larger group they call Hispanics.  However this movement exists and it is driving illegal aliens to our country.  It is called Aztlan after the Aztec rulers of Mexico when Cortez first arrived there. The Aztlan movement in Mexico believes that our borders mean nothing and they have the right to come to the United States. They plan, as they have publicly proclaimed, to take over and seize a major portion of the Southwest to make it a part of Mexico. One of their most active supporters is a racist and criminal organization called The Race or La Raza, which has as its motto, "for the race everything - for others nothing". The press only refers to Mexican's as seeking jobs, as if their invasion is only economically driven, but it is really politically driven.  Mexicans are the vast majority of the 12 to 20 million illegals who currently reside among us.

The second group is the movement supported by radical elements within Islam called Islamo-fascism. Throughout the Middle East Muslim people are denied freedom, except for the very small elite who participate in oil revenues. The Muslim countries are dominated by dictators who withhold fair economic treatment for most. There is thus a Muslim diaspora. people spreading across the globe who are unhappy in these nations. A large number of these people believe in the Islamo-facist movement . . . also fueled by the injustices within the dictatorships of the middle east. This movement dreams of inflicting Sharia law and a worldwide Caliphate on all the peoples of the earth. They are enemies of their dictators but blame them on us.  They are swarming to America and Europe through legal and illegal means.  They are told by their religion, a religion that is intertwined with politics, they are destined to rule the world.

Though economically and politically driven these two groups are determined to inflict their culture on us.  They do not want to accomplish the American dream.  They want to change America.  Only control of our borders will restore our sovereign right for our citizens to determine our own destiny.

Our court system helps with the cultural change demanded by these two groups, granting court invented rights to illegal aliens among us that interfere with the federal and state governments attempts to slow or stop the flow.  The Supreme Court ruled in Graham v. Richardson that immigrants could not be refused welfare benefits from the states.   In Plyler v. Doe the Supreme Court ruled a law to stop taxing our citizens to provide a free education to illegal alien children had no "compelling state interest."  The Court declared the law unconstitutional.  Not taxing our citizens to pay for the education of illegals is not a "compelling state interest?"  Our courts don't think the citizens have a right to their own property?  Not as long as liberal judges are sympathetic to those who want to change our nation.

This issue of court invented rights also makes crime a serious problem in our nation.  In conjunction with court destruction of the ability to control our borders, court corruption of the concept of justice means a revolving door prison system with trivial sentences for horrible crimes.  We have become a magnet for illegal aliens who come here just to rob, rape and kill.  In California a third of the criminals in prison are illegal aliens.

It is impossible to accomplish "comprehensive" immigration reform as long as
the courts
big corporations,
sweat shops,
and Democrats
see amnesty for illegal aliens as furthering their interests, and regular Americans don't resist. Until recently we didn’t resist.  Amnesty plays into the hands of the Mexican and Muslim invaders who want to change America . . . not be a part of America. We cannot again try to solve the illegal alien problem by granting amnesty to those who don't want to be part of America just because they are here.  Pretending that the current invasion has the same motivations of earlier waves of immigration is a delusion.

Even legal immigration has elements today that are hurting the concept of the American melting pot.

Each year, America admits approximately 800,000 legal immigrants wishing to settle in the United States as permanent residents. This number includes 400,000 who join close family members who are already legal immigrants in the United States, 140,000 people who will fill jobs for which the U.S. Bureau of Labor finds a shortage of U.S. workers, and 110,000 refugees who have demonstrated persecution in their homelands.

Please note the 400,000 who "join close family members". A huge percentage of these are elderly parents who, by virtue of Jimmy Carter's changes to Social Security, immediately start drawing social security at higher rates than Americans who paid into the system as soon as they arrive.  They receive these benefits for the rest of their lives.  We need to change the law to limit the elderly from coming here to get a retirement that they have never paid a dime to deserve.  Is it any wonder Social Security is going bankrupt? This is not compatible with the concept of people coming here to accomplish the American dream.

The 140,000 who fill jobs (supposedly jobs short of U.S. workers) frequently take jobs that Americans already have, but the immigrants work cheaper.  Corporations love this. This happens in both high wage and low wage jobs.  Silicon Valley, where I worked, regularly fires high paid technical Americans to replace them with inexpensive immigrants from India and Pakistan. Many more jobs are filled by immigrants at lower economic levels all over America.  This is actually subsidized by our government. Illegal aliens take even more jobs.

There is no justice in making America’s poor compete with the world’s poor for our jobs.

The practical nature of America means that we are committed to solving these problems without giving up either our freedom or the ideal of America as a magnet for those in the rest of the world who have our love of liberty and dream of a better life for their children. We have to control our borders against economic and cultural invasions, not stop immigration.  We have to return America to the great melting pot which is the symbol of our tolerance.  We cannot continue this experiment with "diversity" that is fracturing our nation.

My plans are simple.

First we must stop the flow of illegal aliens. Despite all here in our nation who have ulterior motives in support of this illegal invasion, we must not tolerate people coming here illegally. Our sovereign rights and the future of freedom demand that we build a fence and back it up with troops who will not allow this flow of illegals to continue. Currently we are dealing with this problem too late.  Like the story of the man who came home and found the tap had been left on in the tub in his bathroom.  He grabbed a mop and started cleaning up the flow of water.  However he failed to turn off the tap and all of his mopping was in vain.  Mopping up without turning off the tap is insane.  We must turn off the tap first.

Next we must change the goal of legal immigration into becoming contributors to our nation, not takers.  We have to establish a bonding program for all who enter America.  They must either put up, or have someone else put up, a bond that the courts may not interfere with, which allows government to assure they can get reimbursed for any government assistance, education or health care taken from our taxpayers.  We must re-establish as a goal of immigration, to allow people to immigrate to America who want to build a dream.  We have to end the free ride currently provided for both illegals and legals which attracts those who want to take from America, rather than be a part of America. We also have to return to the concept that immigrants will learn our language, and cease burdening government with dealing in multiple languages. Anyone who cannot speak English must provide for themselves someone who can interpret for them. The American taxpayer should not carry this cost.

Finally we must win the war against the radical elements of Islam who wish to take over the world and destroy not just America, but all of Western culture.  Every act of terrorism reminds us that having the borders uncontrolled makes us more vulnerable to attack from those who have no respect for our culture.  Though radical Islam is a part of this issue of illegal immigration, for many reasons is a bigger problem and greater concern, not just to us, but to the whole world.  Maybe we can talk about that bigger problem at some future time.

On illegal immigration, the American people overwhelmingly want the borders controlled.   We must ensure that the United States controls our borders.   The American people do not feel they should pay for free services for people who are here illegally or are looking for a free ride.  We must ensure we welcome immigrants who want to be a part of America and contribute to America and charge the freeloaders for their costs to the taxpayers.

These are my thoughts.

What do you think?
