Dallas Woodhouse, Director of Americans for Prosperity, is Welcomed at 3rd District Meeting
Bob Pruett introduced Dallas Woodhouse, Director of Americans for Prosperity North Carolina. Also a registered lobbyist, Mr. Woodhouse contends that “Government does not create prosperity; Individuals create prosperity.” He further stated that the government is always ready to take our money and our economic freedom is diminished. Americans for Prosperity, which includes all political party affiliations, is dedicated to the preservation and development of our economic freedom. They would like to see chapters started all across the State of North Carolina, membership is free. They subscribe to the John Locke Society’s position of limited government and free market.
Americans for Prosperity is fighting for lower taxes, because that is the will of most citizens. This last election reflected this position in regard to taxes. There were tax issues on various ballots 32 times and 27 times they were defeated. The Land Transfer Tax appeared 16 times and was defeated 16 times. Unfortunately, there were some successes of sales taxes, passing 6 out of 16 times. Americans for Prosperity believe that we must fundamentally reject the premise that government needs more.
The property rights issue and the erosion of these rights is a major challenge for Americans for Prosperity. People are continually losing their property through abuse of the system. In regard to North Carolina’s current 21 billion dollar budget, 19 billion was spent without real scrutiny. Americans for Prosperity published a “Pork List” that included a 3 million dollar Drag Racing Hall of Fame, which was defeated as a result of their efforts. They were also instrumental in the defeat of the 40 million dollar incentive effort for the Goodyear Bridgestone Tire and Rubber Company.
Amendment to Article - January 2, 2008: The original bill (referred to by AFP) proposing $40 million in giveaways was vetoed by Governor Easley in August, unfortunately, ended up as a bill that approved over $60 million towards this project in September.
Americans for Prosperity make the effort to put a face on the taxpayers in our State. They advocate, “Cutting taxes and government spending in order to halt the encroachment of government in the economic lives of citizens by fighting proposed tax increases and pointing out evidence of waste, fraud and abuse.” Americans for Prosperity publish a scorecard of the votes of elected NC Legislators to keep us informed of how they vote on these issues that impact our lives. www.afpnc.org
