Bob Crumley Impresses Republicans at Down East Club
![]() |
At the August meeting, we were blessed with two excellent speakers. Republican candidate for attorney general, Bob Crumley, impressed everyone present and William "Buzz" Cayton made an excellent PowerPoint presentation on the United States Constitution. Both were deeply appreciated by club members and many questions asked.
Bob Crumley really wants to be attorney general. He has been running for it since 2005 and is the only announced Republican candidate. |
Crumley has raised more money this year than any other Republican candidate except Fred Smith, candidate for governor.
There are presently three Republican candidates running for governor. Crumley does not want a primary opponent. He says that Republicans can not afford to "load and reload". In other words, all the money should go to beating a Democrat opponent instead of a Republican in the primary election. There are also two Republican candidates running for Treasurer even though there are several Counsel of State officials without an announced Republican candidate.
The office is presently held by Democrat Roy Cooper. Republicans picture Roy Cooper as a highly partisan attorney general who is quite loud when there is any word of Republican corruption but surprisingly quiet when there is Democrat corruption. Roy Cooper announced this year that he would run for a third term as North Carolina’s top law official. Republicans can not let this happen.
Crumley has been active in Republican politics since college. In 1977, he became the youngest Republican Party county chairman in the United States. He has served as a county manager and county attorney and co-chaired a statewide commission. Bob is prepared and ready to serve as North Carolina’s next Attorney General.
Bob’s law firm, Crumley and Associates is the largest consumer law firm in North Carolina. Bob serves on the North Carolina School of Government Foundation (formerly the Institute of Government) and the Executive Board of Leadership North Carolina. Crumley received his law degree from Wake Forest University.
In his presentation, Crumley pointed out some real problems that need to be corrected:
Corrupt elected officials are being investigated and prosecuted at the federal level because Roy Cooper fails to do it at the state level. |
Drivers who are stopped for a possible DUI can ask for a blood test in place of a breath test. If they do, it takes the state up to 12 months to return the results and the suspected drunk driver keeps driving. |
In cases involving serious crime, it can take the state of to 18 months to complete a DNA test. District attorneys are forced to try cases before they have the evidence from the crime lab and innocent people could also be convicted because they evidence is not there to clear them. |
